Overview:

Travelling back in time to Ely in 1939, children will learn what it was like to be school children at that time, learning from the Air Raid Warden how to stay safe. In our reenactment, they will take on the role of Jewish evacuees travelling from London by train to Ely, discovering the real-life stories of young people.

In the afternoon they will rotate around three activities: Rationing, Make Do and Mend, and Wartime Toys.  The day is staffed by our costumed education team and there are plenty of opportunities to handle objects throughout the day.  Why not come in 1940s dress yourself?
