Who Brewed Beer? A temporary exhibition
12th November 2025 - 26th April 2026

Who Brewed Beer? A temporary exhibition at Ely Museum
Ely Brewers: Making the finest ales since Anglo Saxon times
Discover over a thousand years of brewing history through the stories of the people who made it. Making alcoholic drinks out of fermented grain has a long history in East Anglia, from prehistory and the Vikings through to the many small inns and pubs that brewed their own beer, the family breweries like Legge and Hall and Harlock, and then the increasingly large and commercial companies who ran the Forehill Brewery.
Our temporary exhibition invites you to find out more about the people who brewed at different times in history, from the medieval monks to the present day, learn more about the ingredients and how they’ve changed, and take a sniff at some of the odours of the process.
This exhibition is included with an admission ticket or a valid annual pass.
