SUMMARY:Who Brewed Beer? A temporary exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Who Brewed Beer? A temporary exhibition at Ely Museum  \nEly Brewers: Making the finest ales since Anglo Saxon times \nDiscover over a thousand years of brewing history through the stories of the people who made it. Making alcoholic drinks out of fermented grain has a long history in East Anglia\, from prehistory and the Vikings through to the many small inns and pubs that brewed their own beer\, the family breweries like Legge and Hall and Harlock\, and then the increasingly large and commercial companies who ran the Forehill Brewery. \nOur temporary exhibition invites you to find out more about the people who brewed at different times in history\, from the medieval monks to the present day\, learn more about the ingredients and how they’ve changed\, and take a sniff at some of the odours of the process. \n  \nThis exhibition is included with an admission ticket or a valid annual pass. \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:A Golden Age of Summer - Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:A Golden Age of Summer \nA temporary exhibition at Ely Museum from 26 July – 14 September 2025 \nYou are invited to a summer of relaxation and play at Ely Museum! \nInspired by the long\, lazy\, summer days of the Edwardian period\, our summer exhibition encourages you to linger and lounge: play at a picnic\, sit with a book or take a selfie in our boat on the river. Throughout the summer we’ll have games and activities in the museum and courtyard as well as immersive play in the temporary exhibition itself. \nThe Edwardian period in the popular imagination is a time of sunshine and day trips and garden parties\, sandwiched between the strict morals of the Victorian Age and the devastation of the First World War. Building on this rose-tinted dream of the past and drawing from photographs in the museum collection\, we’ve created an immersive space to come and recreate the relaxation of a golden summer at the start of the twentieth century. \nWe are delighted that our summer exhibition features artwork by Laura Pearson-Clark of Art in the Burrow. \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Back to Nature - Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Back to Nature\nA temporary exhibition at Ely Museum from 20 July – 30 November 2024 \nEly Museum have been working on their latest exhibition\, Back to Nature ready for the summer. With input from the Ely Nature Friendly Farmers and conservation organisations such as the RSPB and the National Trust at Wicken Fen\, the exhibition champions the environmental initiatives that are taking place across our fenland landscape. \nThe Fens are a truly unique and support an incredible range of wildlife including specialist species that are found nowhere else in the UK. A landscape that has changed dramatically from wetlands to a drained fenland creating farms to provide food for us. As technologies changed and farms have become increasingly reliant on chemical inputs on large scales\, biodiversity has continued to decline. But here in a pocket of the Fens are the Nature Friendly Farmers of Ely\, using innovative techniques to support traditional values in going back to nature. \nFrom marvellous minibeasts to fruitful flowers. The exhibition includes several activities for children and family visitors including a roleplay vegetable patch and a craft table to make your own butterfly to add to the museum display. A new Back to Nature trail around the museum will be available from Saturday 20 July\, so start the Summer Holidays with some family friendly fun! \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Prehistoric Jaws
DESCRIPTION:Prehistoric Jaws \nA temporary exhibition with support from the Sedgwick Museum of Earth Sciences\, University of Cambridge.  \nMillions of years ago the land where Ely is now was covered by a shallow sunlit sea. The waters teamed with creatures\, some related to animals that live today. Alongside sharks and squid and fish lived large reptiles with powerful jaws. Come to Ely Museum to discover what ate what and who was the fiercest predator of all. \n \n  \n  \n  \n  \n
