We want everyone to be able to enjoy Ely Museum and have worked to make the museum as accessible as we can, working within our listed building. We have level entry from the street and a lift for visitors, as well as an accessible toilet.

We appreciate that it helps some of our visitors to know in detail what to expect from a visit, so if that would help you, please download the walk-through access guide, sensory map and social story.

On the second Wednesday afternoon of each month, we also have a ‘Quiet Hour’, with reduced sounds and noises within the galleries. Find out more below.

Quiet Hours

Join us on the second Wednesday of the month, from 3.30 – 5pm as we turn down the sounds, and enjoy a quieter, more relaxed museum visit.

All are welcome during our quiet hours, though this time is especially ideal for those who find the usual sounds of the museum more challenging.

We certainly don’t expect you to be quiet though – we hope you have fun exploring the museum galleries & really enjoy your visit! All the usual exhibits will be available, just with reduced, muted or subtitled sounds.

There will also be a quiet space set aside in the Aedwen Room for those who wish to escape the noise completely. Fitted with comfortable seats, tables, and a sensory tent, it is the perfect spot to take a moment.

There is a limited range of noise cancelling headphones and fidget toys which you are welcome to use too.

Normal admission tickets apply during our quiet hours, accompanying carers are always free. There is no need to pre-book.
