Overview:
In the morning the children discover the background to the Littleport Riots and encounter some of the characters involved. They take on a role – a magistrate, a rioter, a citizen of Ely – and consider their involvement and motivation. Moving to the Georgian courtroom, they take part in a re-enactment of the trial and learn the fate of the rioters. In the afternoon they divide into groups to complete a rotation of activities, looking at replicas of original documents, thinking about gaol conditions, and finding out about crime and punishment in the past.
